Questions Prospective Students Ask:

How do I become a Hillel member? Is Hillel only for Jewish people?
You become a Hillel member by requesting to be on the Hillel mailing list. Any Clark student can be a member of Hillel.

Do I have to be religious to join?
Any Clark student can participate in Hillel programs. Some of our students only participate in events once a month or once a year, and some participate on a weekly or daily basis. Our most popular event, the Midnight Bagel Brunch, brings out hundreds people from all over campus to join in a free midnight snack of bagels and other goodies.

Does Clark have study abroad in Israel?
At this time Clark University does not endorse study-abroad programs in countries, such as Israel, that the U.S. State Department has issued travel warnings for. However, it is possible to take a leave of absence from the University to study abroad in Israel. For a list of programs in Israel please visit: www.masaisrael.org

What does Clark Hillel do for Shabbat?
Shabbat at Clark Hillel is a joyous and festive experience. Each week we have two different student-lead Erev Shabbat services. One is a "liberal" service featuring musical instruments and texts in both Hebrew and English. The other is a "traditional egalitarian" service that uses no musical instruments and is usually entirely in Hebrew. Each week also features a delicious Kosher Shabbat dinner, usually attended by 50-60 students. After dinner, many students stick around for a spirited session of Shabbat Shirim (songs) and Birkat HaMazon (the blessing after meals).

What is Jewish life in Worcester like?
The Jewish community in Worcester welcomes Clark students with open arms. There are 5 synagogues in the Worcester area, most of which are within walking distance of campus. Clark Hillel frequently co-sponsors events with the Worcester Jewish community and families from the community love to host students for Shabbat and/or holidays. Please visit our links section for more specific information about each of the synagogues and other Jewish organizations in the community.

Does Clark have a Kosher meal plan?
Not at this time. However, the cafeteria has an extensive vegan/vegeterian section. Clark University Dining Services has a positive attitude towards bringing more kosher food to campus, and is partnering with Hillel to expand kosher food offerings here at Clark. All food served at Clark Hillel events is be fully Kosher, including our weekly Shabbat dinners.
